Join us at Hardwick Village Hall at 7pm on Saturday 22 October for a talk from Chris Lehrbach from Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership. Chris will discuss poor performance orthopaedics, and this is a great chance to enjoy an informative evening with one of the region’s top equine vets.
The talk will be followed by supper and then an autumn social.
Tickets cost £15 including entry, food, and one glass of wine.
On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone that was involved in Sunday’s Norfolk & Suffolk Arabian Horse Group Annual Show. Having taken over the reins of running the group at the February 2015 EAGM, we have all worked hard to build the group back up and our aim was always to put on a show. Yesterday, we achieved it.
Our express thanks must go to the judges, Rebecca McCormick, Stephanie Zebedee and Simon Altham; to those that helped on the day, especially Yvonne Gill and her son, Jack; to all the many sponsors that ensured that the show could go ahead; to Forest Edge Arena, who made us all feel so welcome and for whom nothing was too much trouble; and to all those that had faith and entered horses, took part and competed. The reactions from the competitors throughout the day was just wonderful and it was great to see so many happy faces in and out of the ring.
Above all, my thanks go to the Norfolk & Suffolk Arabian Horse Group Committee – Katy, Cheryl and Mary – but especially Christine, Carol and Louise who have been with me for many years, on and off the committee. We have a great team and, after yesterday, two new members to carry the group on with into the future.
All the comments that have been on Facebook since have a common thread – a feel-good, friendly show. A happy show. A relaxed show. One where everyone had a great day and left the ring with a smile on their face, regardless of where they placed in the line up. While it may not have been a huge show in terms of numbers, the quality was definitely there – as evidence by all the Supreme Championships.
It has taken me a while to compose my thoughts. I must confess, I felt quite emotional yesterday. This is a group that I have grown up with, and yesterday certainly felt that we had risen from the ashes and put the ‘feel good’ factor back into our membership even more. The smiles on everyone’s faces yesterday was an amazing tonic. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its success, great and small – you are all amazing.

We very much look forward to welcoming you at our AGM on Friday 12 February at Hardwick Village Hall, NR15 2AB, at 7pm. Ann Green is very much looking forward to coming to talk to us and, as well as the usual business of the AGM, we have the 2015 Points Championship to present.
We do, however, need some new members to join the committee. As you have seen from the activities that have taken place since February 2015, we have achieved a lot for the group and with the show coming along in May, we have a very exciting year ahead. For personal reasons, Pippa Windle-Baker is standing down with immediate effect, while Mary O’Rourke and Claire O’Kane, who were members of the previous committee for many years, will be standing down at the AGM.
With this in mind, once the AGM has arrived, we will no longer have a quorum and thus, constitutionally, will be unable to continue. We urgently need at least two members to step forward and join the committee. We have our meetings at Christine Osborne’s house in Thurton and we are a very friendly, positive, pro-active group. Much is done via e-mail but we do try to meet the minimum of once every four/five weeks.
The whole committee since the EAGM in February last year has worked tirelessly for the group to help get it back on the map and you have all been amazing in supporting us. We now need two or more of you to please join us and help us continue to keep the group going.
If you are interested, or would like to know more, please contact myself, Christine, Carol Johnson or Louise Clarke to find out more about the roles available and what being a committee member entails.
We look forward to welcoming you at the AGM and to new committee members joining us.

To celebrate that 40th anniversary of the group, the committee has decided to run a calendar competition. A total of 12 images of your pure, Anglo or part-bred Arabians will be selected from those entered and made into a calendar.
To enter, simply select your favourite image/s of your beloved Arabian – be it an archive photograph of the horse that started your journey, your latest foal, your horse competing, or anything in between, and submit to us, at £1 per image, by 25 October 2015. The committee will then select 12 images at their next meeting. These will be made into a commemorative calendar for 2016, with each page dedicated to one photograph as well as room to write all your essential appointments.
Please send your images to email@example.com once you have made your payment – please ensure that the image is high resolution and no bigger than 3MB in size. If it is over 3MB, please send via wetransfer or hightail.
While we would prefer photographs taken by yourselves, we do accept professional photographs as long as written consent from the photographer is sent with the image.
The winning images will be unveiled in the calendar at the Film & Archive Night on 14 November – even more reason to come along and enjoy some winter warmth!
Please note that this competition is open to members only – so if you would like to take part, please sign up for your membership today. As an added bonus, become a member now and your subscription will run through until 31 December 2016!
Good luck and don’t forget, you can enter as many images as you like. We look forward to receiving them!

Founded in 1975, this regional group is one of the oldest in the United Kingdom and for the past 40 years, we have devoted our time to supporting the Arabian horses and their owners in this part of the world.
Following a six-year period when the group was known as the Eastern Arabian Group, it was voted at the 2015 AGM to bring back the original name for not just this special year but also going forward into the future.
We have a number of exciting events planned for this year, kicking off with a demonstration by trainer Kay MacLachlan at Blue Ceder, Thurton, followed by a 40th anniversary party/BBQ on Friday 17 July.
Then, to counter the darker winter nights, Trevor Mattocks will raid his archives and we will host a Film Night on Saturday 14 November at Hardwick Village Hall. As well as sharing archive Crabbet and Polish Arabian footage, there might also be some of the old group shows appearing so keep your eyes open!
We would like to ask all members, old and new, to send us their memories of the group and also old photographs so that we can use them in newsletters and our website this year.
Other plans include a Ridden Clinic/Tack Bring & Buy at Strumpshaw Riding Centre, as well as an Autumn Pleasure Ride; full details will follow in due course.
Finally, we are looking once more to have a dressage team at the British National Championships, so please contact Mary O’Rourke to discuss this.
Please ensure that you renew your membership so that you can be kept up to date with the latest happenings – our prices remain at £15 for individuals and £25 for families.
We look forward to celebrating the Norfolk & Suffolk Arabian Horse Group’s 40th anniversary year and to moving forward into the next decade with the full support of a dedicated group of members. See you in July!
